Syrian-born Zirriyan Ahmmed is from Northern Iraq, and has been in New Zealand since the age of eight. With 12 years of experience in the barber trade, Zirriyan Ahmmed opened The Don Hair and Beauty Barbershop in Mangawhai Village in July of 2022, after seeing a gap in the town for a barbershop. The Don Hair and Beauty Barbershop is the first of it’s kind in Mangawhai Village.
“I got into hair cutting straight out of school and absolutely love the industry because I get to make people feel good about themselves,” says Zirriyan.
“Encouraging others is why I got into the industry, and I want to help men feel good on a daily basis. They build roads in the rain, use big machinery and make life tick over, and they need to be shown appreciation. My shop is a place where guys can come and have a laugh and forget about their worries. I want to have a positive impact and help bring the best out of my customers.”
